Poisoned trees

Pretty sure I saw another post recently on this topic.

Big houses – tree line – beach

I wonder who is responsible?

So Australians, what gives? This seems like the public looking for scape goats. It always seems like Australia “one-ups” reasonable when it comes to protecting the ecosystem.

So the government gets elected by being tough on these things and they measure their own effectiveness? Guys, I can’t find a single meta analysis on your obviously intentional “stepping up” of enforcement. Do you guys do anything to check yourselves, at all? How is there not a populist conservative backlash?

This is presented to evoke specific emotions. Rather than just taking those emotions and being like “Yeah! FUCK THESE GUYS!” I’d like some more information.

I just keep seeing Australia taking human norms, changing them, putting up some signs then singling out the 1 in 1000 who happened to not see them and fine them $5,000 for a banana.

I want to get behind this, but this is just too much. Australia is meming its enforcement and on a tear, and I’m personally past the point as an outside observer in observing a consistent big-brother aspect to Australia.

Correct me if I’m wrong. Show me independent studies this is effective and worth it. I went on a quest after seeing this photo (and many many like it over the past few years) and I’m finding a complete lack of data and a whole lot of grand standing.

I’m scared for you Australia. These are surface level great ideas and I’m on board if it makes sense and would love to import some of it into my own country, but this is very… populist.
