This willow tree was on the front yard when I bought my house last year. I know nothing about caring for a tree. It seems like it is almost able to stand on its own now. Should I untie it from the post? Should I trim the growth at the bottom? Is it normal for the leaves to be turning yellow and falling off this early?

Tactical dot for an answer, the same is happening to mine
Looks fine to me, my willows are starting to drop now.
I’d maybe leave it another year on the post, but maybe retie it loosely around the main trunk below the junction it’s currently sitting in.
It’s planted too deep. That’s why its throwing off those little shoots at the base
