Pteroceras longicalcareum

this very cute orchid species that I have has finally bloomed!

this is Pteroceras longicalcareum, a species endemic to the Philippines, it is a pendant bloomer, meaning its blossoms hang beneath the foliage, the flowers are very tiny with long matchstick-like spurs, and produces a faint sweet fragrance close to jasmine.

The blossoms last only a day or three though, but that's no news for native and wild orchid lovers : )

This species of Pteroceras is often mistaken for a Phalaenopsis because the plant and the flowers itself have close resemblance to Phals!

the soft hanging "spikes" shouldn't be cut off immediately after the blooms have died because in my case, they grew new buds from them from time to time : ) so I just let it dry off once it's done producing buds.

so that's it, that's the post : ) I'm just happy that I've witnessed it bloom even just for a day and I feel like sharing it here with y'all
