I found this in my spinach from Aldi and I’m not doing well mentally

I posted this last night not understanding how Reddit works (first post) and there wasn’t a photo. I understandably got clowned haha. Anyways, here’s what happened. I bought spinach from Aldi and made a salad: spinach, hard boiled egg (from our own chickens), tomato from our garden, bell pepper, vegan Ceaser dressing from TJ. I found THIS on my fork after I ate 3/4 of the salad. I’m HORRIFIED! What is it and what do I do?

My theory is it’s a decomposed mouse but my husband says it can’t be a mouse because it doesn’t have bones. I may never eat again.

I usually eat homegrown spinach but it’s sprouting in the cold frame and not ready yet!

This looks like a chunk of dru spinach that vaguely resembles a dead mouse. Mice don’t have green tails though, and do indeed have bones lol

Well, it’s not even 7 AM and I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet but that’s enough Reddit for today. Seriously though, I am not even religious but god help you. My appetite has died a thousand deaths in your honor.

Looks like a veeery old spinach clump? Sometimes when I add too much uncut spinach to soups it clumps up in a similar manner. Still looks gross though, sorry you had to find it in your food.

Let it dry out so you can at least confirm it is plant matter

Good news is your husband is correct. What you have is a poorly processed spinach cutting. I’ve seen this as we eat a lot of canned and frozen spinach in my house hold. It’s a good idea even canned and frozen to wash first. You would have likely seen it then.

Return it to the store. Aldi has the “Twice as Nice!!!” guarantee lmao so you can get your money back.
