Is this an animal or insect that is stripping the bark from my lemon tree? or perhaps something internal? The whole tree is looking really sad now and I’m not sure I can save it. Tree is approx 20 years old, Sydney AUS 😱💔🍋 thanks

Rats, few friends had their lemon trees destroyed like that and it was rats.
