Lawn Care

Where do I start? Do I wait?

I had the whole front lawn re-sodded last year but the guy did an awful job and didn’t thoroughly remove the old sod. So all that happened was all the awful weeds and different types of grass all grew back. He also said he put in St. Augustine in but it looks nothing like my neighbors St. Augustine. I mean the pallets he brought were different from each other. I watered it religiously and it looked fine for a bit but you couldn’t walk on it without busting an ankle. It was so bumpy and awfully spaced. Cut to a few weeks ago and the pulling of a few weeds turned into just ripping anything that would just come up. No one square foot has the same grass as the one next to it. HOA hasn’t come knocking yet but I need to be prepared for it. It’s dirt now. Should I get rid of the rest? Do I keep digging out to make room for level sod? Do I even bother at this time of the year? It’s pouring rain every other day here in Florida and washing away the soil as you can see. I keep trying to read through tips here and there but can’t find someone who just has crap dirt as a starting point.

I mean yeah if you just sod it as is you will feel a little bump when mowing if you don’t dig down a little. You don’t have to dig it all out just make a edge and feather the grade out and sod over it.

Completely bare soil is most ideal but a few debris or even a few small weeds aren’t a big deal. You could treat with glyphosate then sod a few days later.

As per timing, IMO the best time to sod in central and south Florida is October, without a 4 day long storm though.
