Strolling through the garden with an eye on what comes next

Whelp … it took me two tries but I finally got a garden stroll filmed (sorry for the delay, friends). I feel like not a lot has changed in the garden in the last week but at the same time that we’re on the cusp of a lot of changes. My thinking has already shifted to “what’s next?” and I’m talking through changes I’m looking forward to making.

  1. Loved the video, and have added Calamintha Montrose White and Neon Sedum to my must buys. And I am wondering why the heck I can't get lobelia to do well in my garden. Can you please tell me the name of the gorgeous cedar? I couldn't quite catch it. Thanks so much for all of the laughs and inspo!

  2. You know, I immediately thought "sculpture" for that spot where Erin's considering a Japanese maple, maybe in a raised bed situation. That space seems to be calling for something different nestled in there…to my eye. And a material to bring light back there. Then suddenly, there was a sculpture soon after so, there's that…. Oh, well. This tour was worth the extra day's wait so thanks for your consideration for your audience with a do-over. Love this weekly laid-back meandering and tracking changes, successes, failures (for whatever reason) and surprises. Thanks again, Erin.

  3. Erin. Your grass issue could be fall army worms. However, with your colder climate they shouldn't be as detrimental as they can be in the South East. You can look it up, easy way to check using a bucket of soapy water. Treatment isn't normally too big of an issue if it was caught and treated early.

  4. Erin, have you heard that saponin-rich plants may be the answer to getting rid of the jumping worm problem. Saponin-rich plants create a nice foamy lather that can be used as a gentle cleanser.
Maybe look up a list to see which ones you can add to the garden.

  5. Oh …..is that a tri colored beech at 22:37? I love those trees! Here’s what I think I know about them already…..they like some shade so underplant it. They can be pricey. I swoon when I see one…..every.single.time. That’s it! Any feedback you can give about it would be appreciated.

  6. At the 12 min mark, for the shaded area, consider using a flamingo dappled willow. They need shade and they love moist soil. They are very hardy, and they get large. I had one get 10 ft tall and 15 wide here in southwest Missouri, and it was in a little morning sun, but shade the rest of the day. It has a fine light colored foliage, and you can't kill it, they are tough!

  7. Love lobelia and I have the blue one which is in your garden. Also I have a tall 4 feet violet/ magenta colored lobelia which I got from my neighbour who grew it from seed. Your garden is doing well! 😁👩‍🌾

  8. I love these unedited garden strolls! Thank you for the great info and laughs. The hour long process of throwing a rope onto the perfect branch for the hanging planters was awesome 😂

  9. Your gardens look incredible as always! Thank you for giving me permission to get rid of those hostas lol😂. I have them and felt guilty about getting rid of them so I split them and moved them all around my property🤨.

  10. I never heard of jumping worms until you mentioned them in your videos. Sadly, I discovered I have them in large quantity in my shade gardens, just beneath the surface of the mulch. As much as I hate killing things, I do discard them immediately along with all of the mulch. So, thank you so much for talking about them because the last thing I want or need are a bunch of stinkin worms depleting the nutrients in my garden.

  11. I love Heliopolis Burning Hearts, bought a plant at a nursery 2 years ago, winter sowed seeds this past winter and they’re growing. My question: I just learned and have ordered but it hasn’t arrived yet, a new systemic deer repellent that is a granular and it lasts a year from the time it’s applied..have you heard anything about this? Just wondering before I go spreading it all over!

  12. My toad lilies definitely did the sleep/creep/leap thing… not very impressed until their 3rd season they had multiplied from a single rhizome planted to 20+ rhizome clumps with lots of flowers 😃
