How should i go about sanitizing and repotting this monstera?

This was hard to photograph, but basically the plant was outside all summer and its now time to bring it back indoors. I wanted to remove that moss pole because its been outside but also because the plant is quite crooked. How do i go about it? If i just remove the pole there will be roots exposed? Im not planning on replacing the pole.
