Seeking Plant Recommendations for Large Pots Near Pool in North Texas

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to North Texas, and my new home includes two large pots with a wooden structure above them. Since these pots are near the pool, I’m looking for plant options that minimize leaves falling into the water, although it’s not a strict requirement. I’d also like to make good use of the existing structure.

I’m new to gardening, so any recommendations on suitable plants or tips for maintaining them in this setup would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A cute and formal, but native option for these pots would be something like a yaupon holly topiary. You can get dwarf cultivars that look something like a boxwood, and you can maintain them in about any shape you want (you can also sometimes find them pre shaped).

This would be my best guess at a good AND native fit for the space. It kinda begs for something formal like a boxwood or a cypress topiary, I think. Something flowering would be cool, but then you’re inviting a mess. Guessing you’re zone 7 or 8?
