Why are cuttings so small these days?

Is it a trend to have almost no stem or area surrounding the node on cuttings? I swear, the cuttings I’m getting these days from local and Etsy sellers alike are all tiny. They all seem to have issues with rot and then there’s nothing left to cut back. I always leave room on my cuttings so that if there’s any rot, there’s plenty of room to cut it back without destroying the node. Am I missing something here?
