Mom found this while foraging in Timberon, New Mexico. She found it on a leaf. My first guess was Lions mane but I’m not sure about the reddish color. We’ve found all types of Fungi, even Chaga once, but I don’t know if I’m comfortable saying it’s lions mane for sure. Thanks for all the help!

It’s a gall (an abnormal growth on the plant catalysed by insects laying their eggs inside). This gall is likely created by a species of wasp in the genus _Cynips_.
