planter has a 10in diameter for reference. she used to stress about this guy and he was so frail and sad and now that she just lets him be besides watering he’s grown into a monster. definitely could use a haircut but we’re afraid to touch him lol

What is this orchid potted in? It should be in orchid bark or bark mix and it looks like potting soil or something degraded, not loose and airy like it should be. Maybe she should take a look at the roots? It looks strong though.
That’s a monster all right but will die in potting soil I’m sure.

The fact that it’s that big and in regular soil is crazy
I showed this to my rotting phal in bark/perlite/sphagnum and i think it died.
