Can anyone determine what type of tree we have based on the seed/nut.. below for more info!

At my BF’s family farm they have a few massive nut trees. (Taller than the house & zone 6 Kentucky region) I always thought it was a walnut tree but I’m being told it’s not due to the smooth texture? I can get pictures of the tree tomorrow but wanted to see if someone knew tonight based off these!
