Which Hose Reel is Best? – Comparing the Top 10

Here are the results in order of highest score to lowest score: (reminder, if you have feedback on any of these hose reels, let people know in the comments because it is legitimately helpful).

1. Hoselink (also the MOST expensive) : https://amzn.to/3PxUlRr
2. Glahoden (best bang for your buck) : https://amzn.to/3IO9mKW
3. Gardena : https://amzn.to/3IMfCDc
4/5 tie. Flexzilla : https://amzn.to/3TsFnxf
5/5 tie. Vevor (This was obviously NOT a long term test but if I had to guess which of these would wear out the fastest, it would be this one which makes sense because it is the cheapest option. Just had to throw this out there) : https://amzn.to/497s6jA
6. Giraffe (*NEW DEVELOPMENT* – Giraffe now has an option for a METAL BRACKET and since that was our biggest gripe for this reel, that alone would move this one up the list!) : https://amzn.to/3TLVPtQ
7. Blubery : https://amzn.to/4a0QMLI
8. Retracta: https://amzn.to/3vf5NdX

Side Note: If you are looking for garden hose quick connects, I did a video on the best of those also but spoiler alert, eley was the best: https://www.eleyhosereels.com/?rfsn=6089010.c2d140

  1. I want to point out that the metal bracket for Giraffe wasn’t an option when I ordered 🤷🏼‍♂️.
BUT it is an option now and that one thing would have given the giraffe tools reels 2 extra points and would have put them at number 4 assuming all of us still didn’t pick it as one of our top 3.

  2. Hose reel companies never seen this review coming. Thank you for showing up in my algorithm, the review no one knew they needed.

  3. about Giraffe: I bought 2 of them one for the front yard and one for back…the one in the back, the retractive mechanism has stopped retracting. I opened it up and its beyond repair, the inner retractor casing is made of cheap soft plastic that has warped and stretched out of shape and no longer keeps the spring in place. I immediately checked the one in the front and I can feel the friction, and I am expecting it to quit any day now…one is in the shade and one in the sun, purchased them about 45 days ago…I would expect all of them are made with similar materials…If any company would built a metal/or strong structural plastic that will not soften in heat or crack retractor spring casing I would pay double for the reel…

  4. Thanks for this. I installed a Giraffe two years ago for my daughter. Has worked flawlessly. Installed a second recently and it failed after a week. She returned it and the replacement failed after a month. In both cases the hose guide pulled out and was sucked back into the case.

  5. Have had my giraffe 5/8 for 3 years. Never have brought it in for the winter. Moved it around once. It’s still doing strong. Only complaint is the black fades. I’d like a lighter color that won’t fade like the hose link. But it doesn’t bother me all that much.

  6. Which one pulls out with the least amount of effort? I find hoselink hard to pull out and would like one that easily pulls out!

  7. I appreciated this review. Based on the review, I ended up purchasing the biggest piece of Sh– made by GLAHODEN because I'm not paying for Hoselink prices when other reviews contradicted the functionality for full retraction. Right out of the box, it was connected to water, and water leaked everywhere. Customer service was excellent but no value.

I dont like plastic on the Gardena, I agree with one comment here about performance under pressure.

Can anyone give more updates on Giraffe ?

  8. This gladdens my engineering heart. Useful categories, fair criteria, transparent scoring, use of more than one judge, and complete follow through. More things need to be tested this way. My thanks also to your cotesters. Well done!

  9. Owned the Giraffe. Horrible, broke after 2 months of very careful use. When I took it apart the center bushing was cracked. Chinese plastic garbage.

  10. I just got a liberty Garden Navigator. All metal. No hardware. You have to reel it back in by hand. I think retractability is overrated as it can tangle and probably get stuck over time. Plus, plastic. Liberty Garden is decorative metal with a shelf and rotates around and is aesthetically much more pleasing. I can use the workout of reeling it in because I'm old and fat. 😀 By the way, Yes. The way you did your video is top notch. Keep up the good work. I hope you do one with the metal kind that has the old fashioned charm.

  11. I bought the Giraffe before I saw this. Had to send them both back. After one month, the plastic water connection inside the unit split open.

  12. I had a large automatic retractable hose reel that held 200 feet of 3/4-inch hose. It worked smooth, never had any problem pulling the hose in, and made my life easier. Eventually it wore out, so I bought another one, which also worked fine. I believe they were built by Suncast, but I can't remember for sure. Unfortunately, no one makes one that size anymore.

  13. Great job on the video! I just bought a Giraffe but still deciding on whether to keep it or not. Good reminder about the metal bracket, though.

  14. So funny how Chinese companies come up with crazy brands!

If you think Glahoden is German, you may have watched too many Tiroler 'natural movies', because Hoden is German for testicles! Glahoden claim to be 'international' and seem to be embarrassed to admit that they are Chinese. But the patent they claim to have on their patented flexi hose technology is assigned to…….. Yongkang Naiboen Industry & Trade Co., Ltd. (YongKang, CN). 3 hurrays for the inventor Shi, Zheng (YongKang, CN).
In Germany Naiboen products are sold by Fuxtec. Probably a better name for a dildo company in the US, but Fux means fox in German..

Gardena is originally from Germany and market leader in Europe. They are now part of the swedish Husqvarna group.

    Thanks for the test!

  15. One test that I did not see, and some commentary I was hoping for…
test: how easy is it to replace the hose? I'm going to assume my hose will fail before the housing, so if I wanted to replace the hose, how challenging is that?

commentary: visual inspection of the wind/unwind mechanics…thoughts on how well it will last over time (and in my case how well in MN winters assume I leave emptied reel outside all winter long)?

  16. THIS is how you do a review video. Multiple people. Multiple products. Smart scorecard. No bs. AMAZING JOB GUYS.

  17. Great video. I’m hoping to find a review video that shows comparisons for when you purchase separate hose and mountable reel. The problem with these here is the quality of the hoses. I bought the best heavy duty hose because I live in the desert and it needs to be resistant to heat degradation. Maybe y’all can do a video showing the best mounted reel that comes with only the leader hose?
