This is my dioscorea elephantipes and was doing a health check on my plants today and noticed a small portion of the lower outer shell is coming off. I shared some images and to me everything looks ok and it is wet because i watered it yesterday.
Note i removed the top cover to take the pictures, i didn't wanna remove the plant from container because it seems to be holding tight and not disrupt it.

Is it hard or soft in that area? Where do you live

Is it new? If so, I would almost certainly say yes that’s rot, I’m sorry 🙁
If you can scrape at it and it comes off, it’s not a good sign. You have to find the rot inside and remove it to address it.
