We were recently working on this tree, removing some dead branches, after coming down we noticed this fungus growing on its trunk, what do you guys reckon? There was some dead branches but nothing that made us raise an eyebrow.

Typically fungus is an indicator of decay, so either there may be a pocket of decay just under the bark there or there is a form of root rot.

I would post this in a mushroomID group and also give species of tree, country/location. It’s not familiar to me
