Inherited the house a couple of years ago, don’t live in state. Sister (also lives in another state) and I share responsibility of keeping it up and visit a few times a year. The landscape had become overgrown with weeds and the plants put in 20 years ago were too big and needed constant pruning. I decided to remove the burning bushes and some of bed in front of the side walk. The lawn is mowed routinely so less planted areas means less place for weeds to take over at this point. I’m hoping to fill everything in with natives/pollinator friendly plants over the next few seasons to reduce bare areas that can accommodate seeds. Start to finish this took 5 days. I had help spreading the mulch.
