This is a dogwood tree at a clients house – should she be concerned? I’m not an arborist but I told her I’d look into it. I’m thinking it might be fungus.

    I think it’s rubbing from a competing leader that should have been promptly removed when younger or otherwise mechanically given distance through better spacing of the mains. This is why I want a single stem Kousa or other Cornus tree species although I do like large bush form Kousa.

    Abrasion damage and woundwood as it attempts to limit the damage.
