Inside Rita Konig’s London House, a Wonderful Combination of 2 Flats | Design Notes



Rita Konig welcomes us into her London home, created by combining two flats. Eager to have more room for herself and her daughter, Rita Kong bought the flat above her London home and merged them to create one cohesive space that has all the trademarks of her design, including inventive details, bold use of pattern and a blending of the beautiful and the practical.

“There wasn’t a sadness of leaving a place, but I was aware that we were, sort of, going to be rubbing a lot out,” explains Rita as she reflects on the process of renovating her London flat. There is, however, one tell-tale sign of its previous life: the heavy wool C&C Milano striped curtains. “I think I spent eight months paying for them,” admits Rita, with a laugh.     There is something about Rita Konig that draws you in. You want to hang on to every piece of advice she hands us. The way she mixes old and new and the things she's collected makes for a wonderful viewing experience. She seems so fun and joyful and that comes across in her designs. Do I want to copy everything in her apartment, YES! but, then it wouldn't be my space; do I want to pull some ideas from her apartment, absolutely. I love that wallpaper or using the colour burnt toast in my space but differently.
    Love her videos; LOVED her Create Academy courses.

    I've probably gone a bit heavy with odd, even ugly objects that I can't resist, but it's nice to have Rita's approval. I only wish the rest of my odd abode appeared to have been decorated by her!

    So many things to love about this video. As an American who didn't grow up with any view towards interiors and comfortable living, I've long admired Rita's tasteful and comfortable approach to gracious living. I also just turned 40 a few days ago and can really relate to her sentiments of barreling towards a "big" age and feeling a sense of dread because of all the awful signals society gives women especially, about aging. The honesty about paying for things for 8 months (so relatable) and knowing that she couldn't do anything until she was divorced are great reminders that we're all human and have limits. Well done (again) to Rita on a lovely space; happy that it's one that really reflects and represents her tastes, life, and needs past, present, and future.

    Great character filled rooms but I guarantee that she doesn’t dust them and clean all by herself. You think a bit differently about clutter when you’re the one cleaning all on your own.
