On the right is the top layer of straw I put on my compost (contained in the builders yard bag on the left, nothing short of the best over here) to keep the heat in, but as you can see it’s gone grey and white, and had a very very dusty texture throughout.
What might have caused this? Is this evidence of smouldering, or some sort of fungal response?
It’s about a fortnight old; the centre has composted very well so far and is currently just over 20 degrees (8 degrees ambient).
