Hoya

What do I do with this monster?!

This crazy thing grew from one of those single-heart-leaf-in-a-pot thingies that people who don't know any better (i.e. me) don't realize won't (usually) grow into anything more.

We went through some rough times, some issues with watering, as evidenced by the leaf-growing strike you can see it went through when I didn't give it enough water or anything to climb on (the audacity of me!). A switch to a semi-hydro medium and a fun li'l bamboo pole and it's the happiest it's ever been.

Well now it's getting a little unruly, and I'm wondering what my options are. My apartment isn't huge, and my husband doesn't have unlimited patience for my several many plant experiments, so I'd like this not to become Audrey 3 and take over my whole kitchen. There are other plants in this house I have to consider!!

Also, the newest leaves seem awfully thin, not nearly as chunky as the original it grew from, and I have zero idea why (because I haven't googled it yet). So if you have words of wisdom, that would be super!

Thoughts, recommendations, photo inspo welcomed! It's my one and only Hoya (so far) and I only just realized a couple months ago that it can grow absolutely BONKERS FLOWERS, so I really want to take better care of it growing forward.

(Side note: "growing forward" was very much an accidental typo, but hot damn, I'm leafing it there).

Kerri is a rather slow grower, so you can safely tell your husband that it will take years before she’ll take over your kitchen 🙂

With regards to your current predicament: I’d chop and prop. You can cut the top vine and get two new plants, which I would put in the same pot, in order to get a fuller plant.
