Two interesting white oaks


These were right next to each other, I’m guessing that the black colouration on the dead secondary trunk is oxidation of the wood after the bark fell off? It would also be interesting to know how the two trunks connected and kept growing, what could have kept them together long enough to fuse.
Location is Frontenac Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada.
