    Congratulations; you have noticed lichen. Lichen is a compound organism which is part plant, part fungus and sometimes part microbial. It’s actually an amazing life form.

    It’s also epiphytic meaning that it lives on the surface and is completely harmless! It also lives on almost all trees. Very cool!

    That’s just lichen on what appears to be a massive burning bush. My burning bush has a lot too, it’s harmless. Your bush might just need trimming, it was a hot dry year in many areas, could be natural dead wood

    Maybe a crab apple coming in from the side intermingled
