The previous owner of my home left what I thought was a cactus but am now thinking is a euphorbia when I bought the home 4 years ago. I’ve been watering it with a few cups every month or so for the past 4 years and it’s been doing great. The other day I noticed what seemed to be rot around the base (it was soft and discolored) and it seemed to be spreading quickly (see first photos) so in my research (thinking it was a cactus) it sounded like the way to manage that is to cut above the rot, let it callous, and then replant. So I did that but now worried that it’s a euphorbia and that’s not the correct way to manage rot in a euphorbia. Also I am not sure how to interpret the freshly cut end. I can’t tell if that’s how it should look or not. I’m now two days out and I’m noticing more soft spots higher up. I am massively unqualified to keep this plant alive but I absolutely love it and would be really bummed if it died after 4 years. Would love to hear any suggestions/thoughts. Thanks in advance!
