I have just adopted a sad dieffenbachia. Any tips?

I just got this 8' dieffenbachia from a neighbor whose ceilings are shorter than mine. She said it needed more room. Now that it's here, I see how pale and droopy it is. Several leaves have brown edges. Without the stakes, the stems are very bendy. I don't think they are trunks meant to get this tall? It was in a south facing window. She said it is only 2 years old, and she watered it "a couple of pitchers a week". Any advice would be appreciated.

Let it get used to your space before dramatic interventions – can be too much all at once. I’d tie it better to the stake, give her some light and see what happens over a couple weeks. At that point, possible fertilizer and other TLC 🙂
