Clarification: Real Progress Pics, I was originally just asking for advice. Should I use just sand and Stone dust?(Read caption)

Some folks thought I was trying to just post progress pics and had some pics that were months apart. But I was asking about the best strategy.
I guess it’s not bricks underneath (looked like brick outlines were there when I was in the dark last night) but definitely broken up slabs of concrete.

I posted last night trying to get advice on how I should relay the bricks due to how shallow the space between the concrete and ground level is.

If the ground is compacted and has a solid base you can just tamp and then level using paver sand. You can also dig up the concrete chunks and redo the base (gravel) then level with sand. You can also raise and level the border block if you don’t want to dig out the concrete and ensure the bricks and border are flush. I’d invest in a good pry bar and a hand tamper. Your project is small scale enough that basic hand tools will get the job done.
