Doubtful, this looks like physical injury to the trunk in that spot years ago, as you can see the healing callous around the wound is well under way. However, part of the callous at the bottom left is missing as well. Could be animal damage from years ago, like a deer stripping the younger bark, or rubbing antlers on it. Or maybe a car bumper scraped it at some point. Just a guess.
BTW: sorry, it may never really heal over and continuously weaken the tree above it until it completely dies above the wound.
