Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

I just moved to Cyprus and I bought this jade 3 weeks ago. It was beautiful and had no damaging of leaves or branches. It was dark green. It was perfect condition. I am scared to over water it as I have never had such a big jade plant before and I don’t want it to get root rot. I water it roughly 1.5 litres every week. I have attached many photos for reference. I do not let the rain get the pot soaked and move it in when it rains. It is very sunny where I live but we are approaching the winter months (temperatures dropped from 30-40C to 25-30C. Overall changes to the plant are as follows: – loss of full minor branches, yellowing of leaves and reddening of tips, interior leaves falling out, brown burned leaves in some areas. Please help its a very mature plant and i don’t want it to die 🙁

    > It was dark green. It was perfect condition.

It had been grown in very controlled nursery conditions that almost certainly included shade-cloth or protection from the sun.
You’ve plopped it out into full sun conditions with little to no acclimation process.

I would give it some shade during the hottest parts of the day- those leaves look like they are are burning.

I don’t know what type potting mixes you may have available where you live but what you have there looks like plain dirt.
Look for a proper potting mix that has been amended to allow for good drainage.

The bright, clear blue skies of Cyprus, along with a hot, dry climate can easily burn the leaves of most plants, unless they were very slowly acclimated to the weather conditions. You have the jade placed where it gets no respite from the glaringly bright sun and as the other poster mentioned, the soil mix looks like regular Cyprus soil, which is not suitable for most plants – let alone succulents.

You need to move the plant to an area with shade or creating a sun sail/shade by attaching to the railings of the balcony. Can be much smaller than this, but want to give you a visual: [https://www.coversandall.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/sun-shade-sail.webp](https://www.coversandall.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/sun-shade-sail.webp)

While you may not be able to get this particular brand [(Bonsai Jack Succulent and Cactus Soil – Jacks Gritty Mix](https://www.bonsaijack.com/shop/premixed-bonsai-soil/succulent-soil/2-quarts-succulent-and-cactus-soil-mix/)) I am posting it as an example of the soil needed for succulents, and the link shows the ingredients which you may be able to duplicate. (Amazon sells it, but not sure if they still ship to Cyprus or the outrageous shipping cost if they do)

I’d check to make sure jade plants can tolerate full, direct sun.
