Is there a way to keep variegation?

I saw a teardrop pep. At my local nursery with 1 leaf with variegation. I immediately grabbed and bought it thinking I could start a whole new variegated plant with a cutting of the leaf. I cut the variegated leaf off at the stem of the mother plant and propagated it but the 2 leaves it’s put out so far are normal. ☹️
Is there anything I can do to continue variegation output?
