Philodendron

I need help for my heart leaf phildendron

So I got this plant two years ago. It was my very first plant and back then I didn't know a single thing about plants ! I've realised now this is long overdue for care. I would love to clean the roots and pot it in some soil but I'm afraid the shock of transferring and cleaning the roots can kill it. Should I cut my loses and propogate it or can I make this all possible. I would appreciate any help as this plant is sentimental. I really want this plant to thrive 😭 please help.

It’s scarier to transition from one growing environment to another , especially the first time around. I would cut a smaller portion of a vine from the mother plant and try to root that one first. There’s tons of different mediums to root plants so go with the one you’re more comfortable with or readily available to you. If and when you see secondary roots, try potting that into an airy aroid mix. I would avoid straight up potting soil, especially if you’re growing indoors since potting soil retains too much moisture and would starve your plant of oxygen.

But hey, if the plant looks like that after two years of murky algae water, don’t fix what ain’t broke!

Honestly, it doesn’t look that bad at all. Should be an easy transfer. You don’t really have to scrub the roots just rinse them a little bit, add to a chunky mix, and it should be fine. I grow philodendrons in my fish tank so sometimes the roots get really algae filled. I get why you’re concerned but trust me when I say these plants are more hardy than others and will be fine as long as you water the dirt a little bit more than normal to compensate for the transfer from water to dirt.
