The fittonia is known to dramatically wilt when the soil becomes even slightly dry, which is why you are told to keep the soil evenly moist. When this wilting happens, you better immediately water it to restore the soil moisture – some plants recover easily from wilting like pothos and peace lily. Others are permanently damaged (this happened to one of my maidenhair ferns).
