New grower setup questions!

New to hydro growing/gardening in general and experimenting with a super simple DIY set up (tomato plant).

I’m putting in an air stone with a small pump… unless for any reason I shouldn’t, but not sure on where my water level should be. Yellow line is about the bottom of the inner pot (has holes on the bottom). Also, is a trellis necessary? When?

Any tips are welcome!

You should lower the water level that it is slightly under the pot. When you put the air stone in your reservoir, the little bubbles sparkling at the top will moisten the clay.

In the first days, you can spray the plants from above until the roots touch the water
