Does my maple tree need to be cut down?

My maple has always protruded above the ground; however, over the last year, it has become more pronounced. Roots are protruding from the ground and there are obvious signs of stress and disease. Since the maple is close to my house, I’m wondering if it needs to be cut down. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Can we get a photo of the rest of the tree?

The roots protruding from the ground isn’t an issue, it’s just caused by a combination of soil erosion and the roots getting thicker. If you mow your grass really short, you can mow higher, or add some soil and/or mulch around the areas with roots sticking up.

As for the ‘obvious signs of stress and disease,’ there aren’t any in these two pictures, so we’ll have to see the rest of the tree to give any good advice.
