Overwatered Alocasia Black Velvet?

Hi, I bought my Alocasia Black Velvet month ago and it was doing alright. I know it can be a finicky plant so didn’t want to risk overwatering and decided from the begining to water it from the bottom. On Friday, I put it in deeper saucer with water to take the amount of water it needs, left it like that around 20 minutes and that was it. Two days later when I came home from the trip, I found it like in the picture, the center of the plant was soft and almost mushy and I could easily remove the leaves. Is it possible to overwater the plant if watering from the bottom? Because I don’t understand what went wrong. 🥲

Sadly, yes, it is possible to overwater with bottom watering. The color of the end of the stem does resemble rot.

Tips to prevent over water: use more aerate potting mix and increase the light on plant.
