Could be what it was grown in. We planted a rose 3 times begore realised that growers had used blood/bone fertiliser. Washed all roots thoroughly. Dug out hole and all around. Replaced with ‘clean’ compost. Not dug out again.

The foxes might just want to eat the roots. They destroyed my blueberry plants for the roots. I replanted them and put a brick over the buried roots and near the main stem for a while to deter them. They got bored and left it alone.

we have foxes where we live. do the same thing 🙁
