Fiddle Leaf Fig

Help! My fiddle is dying!

Hi all,

I’m really new to caring for fiddle leaf figs, and I think I may have overestimated my capacity. I bought this little guy about 3 months ago. I repotted him using miracle grow tropical soil and he’s been sitting in a north facing window that does not get direct sunlight.

For watering, I’ve been using a moisture meter and watering him with about 2 cups of water every week. I will occasionally put the pictured fertilizer in as well.

All my leaves have dried up and fallen off, and I have no idea what to do! My mom and I are estranged, and one of the things I remember most about her is her love of fiddles and how well she was able to care for them. I feel like I have an emotional attachment to this fiddle and would love any tips on how to save him.

Thank you in advance!

You need to water when the soil is dry, and if you do, soak it.

I always use touch and feel to determine if my plants need water. Stick your finger in the soil and if the first two inches feels dry you can go ahead and water. When you do water, SOAK it. Make sure the water is draining out of the pot holes. I would actually check your FLF for root rot since watering it with only two cups per week could have led to uneven soil moisture.

Also see how the roots are kinda sticking through the soil on the top? After checking for root rot, I would add some soil on the top to cover those roots a bit 🙂

If all else fails, or you can skip directly to this, I would start over and propagate.
