7 week propagation of Monstera Albo in water using an air stone

First time propagating anything, after suffering root rot on this albo I cut it back into 3 cuttings which I decided to root in water.

Decided to add an air stone which I run constantly, if one of the reasons root rot occurs is due to lack of oxygen then at least this way root rot couldn’t occur due to that, looks like the experiment has worked as all 3 cuttings have rooted.

The top cut has the best root system with secondary roots already coming out of it, the 2 mid cuts also have good roots just no secondary roots yet.

Week 1: Changed water out twice, saw little growth happening around 5 days after I put them in water.

Week 2-3: This time changed water after 2 weeks, after reading the rooting hormone released was just getting replaced every time I changed the water, I just topped up when needed and then replaced after 2 weeks when the water would look cloudy.

Weeks 4-7: Started to see a lot of growth so I moved over to a big vase, I suspended the cuttings because the roots would always try to go to the bottom and I felt like they were growing a little faster this way, not sure how true that is but it worked for me. Over the last week I’ve added a grow light to my setup as it’s getting darker and colder in the UK, I feel as though the roots have grown a little faster this week but again I’m not sure how true that is or just visually seeing so many roots makes me feel like there’s been a lot of growth.

The only thing I added in each of the water changes was API stress coat to get rid of any chemicals in the water which I think the roots have enjoyed.

Every water change id make sure to add API stress coat, not added any nutrients or myco but I also think all 3 cuttings are ready to plant now into a substrate.

I’ve bought some coarse soil ninja pon which I’m going to try putting the cutting seen in the last picture in, still trying to work out if I should start with a reservoir straight away as the cutting only has water roots anyway or if I should treat the substrate like soil and water from the top every couple days. Would love to hear advice on this.

Hopefully this helps anyone who wants to try propagation because as a first time it’s felt like a success and it doesn’t feel like it was too difficult as the air stone takes away a lot of the maintenance.
