Grass bleeding into gravel – help!

As per the photo, you can see the lawn is slowly bleeding into the gravel and I can figure out how to stop this from happening.

I’m
New to gardening so any help appreciated!

Do you have edging between the gravel and grass?

  2. You need some edging obstruction like you get little wooden or stone up stands – otherwise, like me, you just need to put some string between two chopsticks, stick it in the ground to form a straight line, and then go along with a shovel or edging tool and straighten it every so often.

Does the gravel have weed mats under it? If it does, and thick enough gravel, the weeds shouldn’t be able to take root!

Nothing a bit of regular maintenance won’t resolve. Your going to need to rake out the gravel edge and cut/scrap off the creeping grass edge every few months.

It is possible to put a hard edge to work from (sunken brick/block line or curbing.) But you’ll still need to edge it every now and then.

Just get a spade and cut an edge, taking the growing grass off. The grass will be fine.

Put a gravel board in. Rake gravel back and lay some planks in just flush with some stakes.

Perhaps a controversial viewpoint: Take the gravel out.

-It’s not a stable base for furniture
-It’s not nice to walk on without shoes
-It needs fixing already as there’s no defined edge.
-Random rocks and lawnmowers don’t mix well
-It’s not really adding anything as a ‘feature’ right now!
