Pothos

SOS- new plant mom, please help

My once thriving pothos is now not looking so good. I’m afraid it’s going to die and I don’t know what to do. I’m a new pothos mom.

The leaves that are yellow are mostly wet feeling, but the edges on the ends are crunchy. There are some fully crunchy dead leaves among them.

Is it root rot? Did I over-water or under-water? Is it lacking light?

I watered it about once a week, with a cup of water. It was in the corner of my room which hardly got any light, but some people said it would probably be okay. I have now moved it to my dining room window hook, which gets eastern sunlight.

All help appreciated, thank you! 🥺

I would gradually get rid of the yellow leaves. Also moving it from a low light to a brighter area could’ve been sudden for it. If there is drainage holes, put that pot under the sink and run the water on it until it fully drains out. Just one single cup may not be enough? Only water when the soil is dry. It could be one week, but it could also be 1.5 weeks. Just make sure it’s dry in between waterings. I also am questioning the appliances near the plant. Is there a heater or air conditioning unit around it? The air could have something to do with it. Also, looking at how fluffy it is, could be a lot of stems in there, and it could be root bound? Those are all that I can think of that may be causing yellowing leaves given this picture. But no need to worry! Pothos are very resilient and forgiving 🤗

I just asked about the air bc I see the appliances below and next to it lol.

Hmm if it was doing it before I’m leaning more towards root bound lol. Root bound is just when there’s a lot of roots in the container. Like a more root than soil type ratio. Pothos do like being slightly root bound though. It can be fixed by upsizing the pot or some people do a root chop of 1/3 or less of the roots and then you can stick in back into the same size pot if upsizing the pot isn’t an option.

I suggested removing the yellow leaves gradually because you don’t want to stress the plant out by removing/cutting a lot off of it at a time.

But also, do not worry because you can always get into propagating but taking a leaf cutting with a node (brown circular part of a vine and leaves) and stick that in water for endless new plant babies! You can look up a video of pothos propagation if needed!

    Hope this helps more!!! 💚
