Hello friends! I just picked this guy (Virginia prickly pear (and hitchhiker)) up from a nursery that’s going out of business. Is this something going Awry or just the scar from its previous propagation? It’s not squishy, so I don’t think it’s rot… but I’d like to give him the best chance at a good life. 🥺

Is it rooted? For best chance at life, plant in the ground and the other pads should have ground contact too; they will root from the aereoles where they are in contact with the ground for an extended period of time. In my experience, they vastly prefer to root in the spring, compared to fall.
