When I transitioned mine, I put it straight into soil. If you want a smoother, kinder transition, I use perlite. Put the cutting in an inner cup with drainage, keep that inside a shallow cup filled with water (not the same height, like half height). Keep the outer reservoir filled so the monstera can stay in water, but start gardening roots
