This tree looks like it had all its lower branches cut at some point before I bought the house. So now it's just ugly and too close to the house for comfort. But I'm not sold on axing it just yet. Anyone know what type it is and whether or not it could look pretty again? Pictures don't quite do it justice on just how high up the first branches start.

I’m not an arborist but I’m pretty sure that is a maple and I think it looks nice. If it’s not decaying I would keep it for the shade it provides. We cut down a massive maple in our yard last fall that was on its last legs and my electric bills this summer skyrocketed.
