Girdled Tree – Can we save?

Hello,

An employee at the business I work at was well meaning but girdled this mulberry tree.

Currently it is still alive atleast by appearance.

Is there anything we can do to save it? Is it even worth trying?

Anything I've googled on how to save a girdled tree only shows what to do for much smaller/younger trees.
