Dahlias

Hi, I think these are all Dahlias. Presume I should be deadheading them?

More importantly though, how far back should I prune them. Last year I went to nearly ground level and they did well, but only came into their own in the last few weeks. So not sure if it was by luck or divine inspiration!

  1. Did you get the one in the second picture from farmer gracy?

We ended up with them too, they’re supposed to be the breed “café au lait” but came out completely different.

We couldn’t find info on the type anywhere so contacted farmer gracy and they said we must have ended up with some hybrid by mistake! Looks like you did too??

Anyways we like them and have taken seeds for next year!

    Also yes.

Deadhead your dahlias, usually wait till they start to die back after the first frost before pruning them back to nothing and taking up the tubers (if you’re going to, we have a neighbour that leaves the tubers in the ground and has incredible displays every year)

Just recalling though, I’m not sure it was that colour, maybe I fed it something odd?

Thanks, a bit off luck last year then. Appreciate the help. I’ve loads more questions coming😀
