What is this?

Behind my house, maybe 4 inches or not even under the ground, was clearing some weeds and shrubs with a shovel as it was overgrown against the house and saw this?

  1. Electrical ground if i am not mistaken.

Edit: not being sarcastic that the ground is electric. It is the ground wire for your breaker box or another electrical system.

That’s an electric service ground rod.

Leave it there. Your house electric service is grounded with this. Without it, things are not safe.

It is a grounding rod for something.

Ground rod. Probably for the houses electric but could be  any of the other utilities. Communication puts these in when the house ground isn’t good enough.  Leave it. It’s meant to divert outside power to ground.

If you decide to move this for any reason, dig a two foot trench as long as it is, throw it in there, bury it and tamp it.

Ground rod. Buried 5/8″ conductive rod about 6′-8′ deep.

I just put one of these in to ground an amateur radio antenna. That rod is probably 9 feet long.

It’s an electrical grounding rod do not remove

Ground wire for your house (in best case). Don’t remove.

    Yikes!
I wonder if you should put a piece of 6” PVC pipe around it, so as not to be dangerous to a mower or person?
