Bonsai

$35 for 6 practice bonsai nursery stock I’m stoked for spring to come so I can start. Got 2 dwarf Alberta spruce, 2 emerald green arborvitae, a boxwood and an azalea.

The staff thought I was crazy; I spent like 30 minutes picking out the ones I liked with the most interesting trunks

Nice! You’re smart to wait until spring for styling. Just so you know boxwoods take absolutely forever to grow and thicken. They’re also stubborn and resist wiring, although you might have better luck in that regard than me given how young it is. Not the best starter material. Arborvitaes also aren’t the easiest but at that age you should see better back budding.

At that size and age nursery material I would focus on wiring for aggressive trunk movement. You can do this in the fall before winter as sap flows slow down.
