My grandma told me to cut the crispy ends off. Is that a dumb idea?

She told me to cut just the brown parts off. I feel like I shouldn’t do that?

I usually cut dead or dying leaves off entirely and with my dracaenas I cut the ends off like she’s saying. Plants will use energy on those leaves so clipping them allows the healthy parts to get more nutrients

I cut my dracaena ends when they crisp. But I also keep getting new crispy tips. So maybe don’t listen to me. 🤷‍♀️

You could cut it if you want. Many people just cut the brown because they don’t like how it looks and it doesn’t hurt the plant at all. So whatever you want to do!

i’ve found cutting it off helps it not spread farther up the leaf sometimes. you can cut it in sort of a triangle shape to keep the leaves looking at least a sort of natural. use sharp clean scissors.

I’ve had a lil luck watering with a bit of sugar water occasionally. It’s supposed to help the plant repair the leaves. Don’t overdo it of course, I’m talkin give a lil clean water, follow with a lil sugar water, so the plant can hold it, like every third or fourth watering. I also just read that hard water can make brown tips, which I have hard tap water, so I’ve started leaving water out overnight so the stuff can evaporate before watering with it

Tell grandma she was right and thank her for the advice

  7. I always cut all the crispy stuff from any plant. Not sure if it does anything for the plant health, but it is very convenient to spot if more dry tips or leaves develop. It quickly tells me whether there is a continuous issue or was it a one-time blip.
