I have a complete empty slate – a yard that is only bare ground and a few weeds growing in it. One of the most intimidating parts of starting a new garden design is knowing where to start! So today, I’m sharing all the beginning plans that I have for my new yard. It’s a blank slate now, but by next summer I hope that it will be a paradise of abundance!

  1. I’d put the greenhouse in the shade. It will probably be sunny once the leaves fall. It only needs to be in the sun during the winter. And it would be storage space during the summer.

  2. So super excited to see content of your new space!!! I'm also excited to watch the planting and set up! I wish I could fast forward in real time to see the finished result. ❤

  3. It will be so much fun to follow this. It still breaks my heart a bit that you had to lose your red roof farm. I like the retaining wall.

  5. I can remember the video you did way back when you were first moving to the farm – digging up plants from your old house and moving them to the farm. I remember you chipping into (what looked like to me) bone dry, rock hard dust desperately trying to get the plants into the ground before they perished and you looked so tired and I just wanted to cry for you. I'm thinking if you survived and thrived after that you can do anything!! 🌻🥰

  6. Really excited to see these projects come together! One thing I would suggest is to use "Chipdrop" if you have it available. It would save you a ton on mulch and I've heard it breaks down to make really good soil.

The only reason I haven't used it is cause they might drop up to 20 yards.. but that sounds like it would be perfect for you!

  7. At one time i could buy the end of the end of the year fall bulbs in big paper grocery bags for $1. What i did was dig larger flat spots @1'x1' or 2'x2', place my bulbs, then toss the dirt back over them….The second year imrealized my poor return was not the bulbs' nor soil's fault but rathervi had crested a squirrel smorgasbord. I planted far fewer the third year then fed hostas to the slugs. Huechera and clearance bate toot roses followed.

  8. I wpuld not get rid of your evergreenn area. It is likely keeping the hpuse cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter; and we are getting more extremes in our weather. Plus, as we get nore densely populated coupled with todays fast fashuon garden design trees will become more valuable. They also do good things for the soil biome for upto quite a ways away.

  9. Cannot wait to see the blank canvas fills up in your new garden!! I prefer to see your future than your past in the old farm 💕🙏🏽

  10. I’m so excited to see what you create in this space. It’s so much fun that this is YOUR SPACE. Your very own! I know my partners dad lives in penticton, and he has lots of deer. Will your hostas be alright?

  11. I have planted the rocks around my friends house because she didn't like the look of the bare rock. We used sage, verbascum, lavender, nepata, succulents, yarrow and others. They only got a handful of compost and most of them are doing great! I'm in Germany though, we don't get as cold as you.
Always excited for new garden plans

  12. Horrible soil and a slope, we have so much in common 😆. I don't even call it soil because it's mostly crushed red sandstone on my property and that causes a really acidic ph. And very few organic matter. Have you done a soil test yet? After many experiments I know that only acidic soil loving plants like blueberries and currants will grow in ground. Strawberries also don't care. I ended up doing raised beds for the veggies. If you wanted to do that you could use the stones your father got for you

  13. You look so much younger and your hair looks nice and soft. This change is probably the best thing that could have happened to you. Looking forward to seeing your plans unfold.

  14. What is the primary purpose of the retaining wall in this case? To keep the plants at the bottom of the slope from drowning?

  15. You can start collecting the leaves frothed one side of the house and transfer them to theshade garden for more soil building

  16. So excited how it's gonna look! I've been watching your video's for years, love your passion and your whole proces 🌻🥕👩‍🌾❤

  17. Serena, I wish you good luck in your work.Greetings from Crimea.30 years ago, I started living in my grandmother's old house. A house and a plot of land on a hill. It was difficult, but I was able to turn it into a piece of blooming Paradise.😊

  18. My worry is that the compost you bring in will just get swallowed up by the stoney soil. If it is too stoney and lacking in actual soil, it may be best to invest in making raised beds and filling in with topsoil or compost and keeping the good stuff just for the beds to grow food in.
