TOP 5 LAWN AND GARDEN TRENDS FOR 2022

TOP 5 LAWN AND GARDEN TRENDS FOR 2022. Well this might not be an exhaustive list, I believe these are the things that you were going to be seeing the most across social media and YouTube. Some of the items listed here have really gathered steam over the last couple of years and are taking a much stronger foothold in 2022. One or two on the list may surprise you, but then again maybe not.

The biggest things that will be going on this year are more powerful electric equipment, more home golf green installs, smarter and more tech heavy lawn equipment, and a couple other things.

I think that many of you will have seen these trends emerging as we got through 2021, and there is no question that people are wanting to improve their own lawn and garden spaces. The lawn and garden industry has grown at an incredible pace for the last two years mainly due to people being stuck at home. While there is definitely a travel backlog, it seems that people are ready to invest more heavily in their own spaces to create backyard paradise.

With the recent ban on gas powered lawn equipment taking affect in California in the next couple of years, there has been a huge push to make sure that all of that equipment is absolutely top notch. Manufacturers are going to be spending way more money on advertising and product placement throughout the course of 2022.

Smart sprinklers and controllers are definitely gaining more and more traction as the technology has increased and the ability to conserve water has taken a much stronger foothold. Robo mowers and more autonomous lawn equipment are getting further and further dialed in and will be taking leaps and bounds within the next couple of years.

I’m sure there are many other things that are going to be popping up throughout the course of the year but this will at least get everybody may be a little bit pumped up as well as ahead of the curve and what content creators will be putting out throughout 2022.

  1. Looking forward to the new content. I am always looking for budget friendly ways to improve my space. Unfortunately, my backyard has become more of a dog oasis but I would love to somehow improve the turf without disrupting their fun too much.

  2. #1 scarcity of labor and more $ to the people who show up to work. #2 continued trend for downsizing. #3 scarcity of plant material and total lack of new and different material #4 really good small nurseries going under #5 push for more boutique fertilizers and gizmos to drain your pocket book#6 continued ridiculous push for natives only regardless of the situation

  3. Agree on all points. But that didn't stop me from buying a gas powered Echo backpack blower… because that's how I roll!!! LOL

  4. Great points. Battery technology is getting better every year. And the staycation thing is spot on. I heard people near me saying it was impossible to get a pool or fence company because they were booked solid.

  5. No videos for 2 months and now 2 videos in less than a week?!?! Glad to have you showing up on my video list again!! Spring is coming and it feels good!!

  6. Nice video, agree with the trends, however, here in Sweden I hardly see anyone with gas driven stuff, I don't think any of my neighbors have anything gas driven either, it's been like that for many years. But hopefully same trend catches on everywhere else, since battery driven tools are really catching up to gas.

  7. Thanks,
Interesting how my passion for the lawn has rubbed off on the neighbors. Maybe your passion for the lawn has rubbed off on us all.
    😎👍🏼

  8. One trend to add, though along the lines of conservation, is less is more. With prices going up, I think we’ll see less “throwing down”. Excellent list!

  9. Great job. What about people growing more food at home? With the supply chain issues I can see people wanting to be more independent.

  10. I can see these trends developing Especially on the pride in homeownership taking off. More DYI projects because most companies are book (which also mean more trips to the ER). Anyway, I do see Rachio teaming with sprinkler manufacturers to “wire” your lawn. In my part of the world I’m seeing a 50/50 either pitting greens or dog runs. Looking forward to an interesting 2022 Cheers

  11. The battery equipment has come a long way, but I'm old school and will always prefer the smell of gasoline..looking forward to 2022!

  12. A big one I am watching is the autonomous mower space. I believe we are still a ways off from seeing neighborhood lawn companies employing them, but anywhere with acreage like campuses, sports turf, big commercial spaces, parks, and greenways…… Its coming! The tech will be cheaper to rent than to pay for labor. What do you think JP?

  13. Ugh 😫😣 on the battery power. No bueno for reel mowing…if you miss a mow, or let it get too thick you're screwed.

  14. Fuck California and their green bullshit. I want a lawn mower that runs on coal

  15. Sounds like John has jumped on the woke bandwagon. Actually a nice lawn is a sign of white supremacy so you might want to factor that in

  16. 1: I transitioned to ego a few years ago and love their equipment.

2: great to see your face on the toobs again!

3: glad to see you move to a short intro. That long one was painful

  17. The one barrier to battery equipment and smart sprinklers is cost. Battery powered mowers are still way more expensive than gas, despite not costing that much more. It will create slow uptake. That and there are no battery leaf blowers that last long enough. Irrigreen sprinklers, $4k for 8 zones. Not including all the pipes and labor. That needs to be like half that price for me to consider it.

  18. LOL… "temporary lapse in judgement". I guess that's PC for "temporary insanity". We've all been there. Not necessarily for a putting green but for some project or another.

  19. It’s -20 where I live and have feet and feet of snow. I can’t even grasp thinking about my lawn now …yet …here I am watching ha.

  20. Excited to see your content for the spring. I will be doing a soil test or two, and then develop a strategy for the year. Hopefully less will be better for all of us. Thanks buddy!

  21. I think those are some likely trends. I know I like fewer inputs with the amount of lawn I maintain (it’s also not irrigated unless I drag a hose around the acre that is lawn). With the battery stuff, anything that needs replacing for me has been replaced by battery equipment – the stuff that’s already out is impressive. Also with the battery equipment, the maintenance is often much simpler (and less messy).

Oh, and don’t worry, I have zero plans for a putting green (not that the idea hasn’t come to mind a bit). If I had that kind of time, I’d probably spend it making more music. That said, I’ll be living that “green” vicariously through your upcoming content. I’m looking forward to the “normal” lawn content too.

  22. Thank you for all the inspiring videos I look forward to what you will put out this year! I was sad to find out that one of the ways our Utah governor is trying to “conserve water” is by paying people to rip out their lawns, what?! Rather than teaching effective and proper watering technics they jump to the extreme and say rip it out. When in the long run ripping out our lawns will do more harm than good when it comes to soil conservation and oxygen production. And not to mention our enjoyment/pride in our yards!

  23. I think this year we will see more alternative ways to feed and get the most out of our lawns. If there are fertilizer shortages or big price hikes in Nitrogen people should start finding other means to get the results they are looking for. I know a guy… GCF should have its biggest year in DIY sales.

  24. You took your back yard from cool to straight. Up. Dope. So that being said it would be really cool to see how you designed yours on paper before you got started. My back yard is completely brand new (had a crappy pool removed) but it is a blank slate (just grass) tips on how to design a nice “backyard oasis” would be amazing! Don’t be frustrated with putting greens, you YouTubers started the trend 😂!

  25. I think the lawn painting trend will get carried away. Sure it's fun to paint in winter dormancy but I can already see that this is going the way of the fitness industry and PEDs… I can see all the "fake natty green lawns" all over Instagram claiming natural in July with 0 watering. Mark it down 😂

  26. Great points. There's a lot of cross over content from the garden channels that the home lawn community may not be fully engaged on. I've been composting my clippings and using them for amendments to my flower beds and garden to a surprising success. A year's worth of lush clippings, "thatch", and leaves becomes 3 yards of compost.

  27. My biggest concern with battery powered lawn equipment thus far (from personal experience) is ability of batteries to hold up. I had to have one replaced already, granted under warranty. However if not within warranty the batt(s) can cost same as original equipment purchase or more.

  28. I’m all in on a good staycation. THAT is why there will be more backyard putting greens 😜 if you need some digital sprinklers, I know a guy…

  29. California ruined 2 stroke dirt bikes and outboards for all of us too. Thanks CA.

  30. John, not a big fan of battery powered equipment. But I did buy a franchise to Riker hand tools!!!! The blood sweat and tears of lawncare. Awesome video I hope the 2022 season is great for everyone.

  31. With fertilizer prices on the rise I think we are going to see more individual macro apps.(urea, potash) unfortunately more grass paint.

  32. I've got a couple of great reasons why not to build your own putting green, but I might save that for my channel 😉

  33. I switched to Allett reel mower brand, a British Company who have been building them since 1965 and yes they are more expensive then the norm but their quality and attention to detail is excellent. This will be my first season for using it looking forward to no gas smells, ear plugs and disturbing my neighbors. I'm glad to be aboard your channel.
