Allotment Tour: JUNE 2022: Vegetable Gardening UK: Plot tour

It’s the end of June and Rachel gives a tour around the plots. The weather has been incredibly dry, but the plants are starting to grow and the plots are just about fully planted up.

At Don’t Crop Me Now we have 500sq.m of space comprising 1 full plot and 2 halves and follow a ‘No Dig’ method in raised beds. We grow a wide range of fruit, veg and flowers which supply our kitchen all year round. We are not fully self-sufficient, but we shop very rarely.

  1. I like your multi Apple tree! I once saw a TV program which showed an apple tree with 250 different varieties grafted on. I've just dug up a grafted meddler tree that I grafted at college to re plant at the allotment in the community jam patch. I hope it survives.👍

  2. Oh what a lovely tour it looks fantastic in the sun ☀️. Fruit 🍎 cage 👍👍👍 filled to the rafters. I’m sure I had a 14’ sunflower 🌻 last year 😂 I’ll keep better track from now on. Frog fountain ⛲️ is adorable 🥰. My edamame last year didn’t do well but I grew a pot so hopefully you’ll do better. You are really knocking it out of the park this year 👏👏👏 keep up the great work both of you. Have a great week 🐝 safe

  3. Rainy Manchester has forgotten its reputation this year. Our Allotment is just a few miles away from yours, and when depressions have been forecasted and were heading our way….they never arrived. It was like the parting of the Red Sea, the water divided in two, and passed either side of us.

  4. 🌻🐝☀️🌺👨‍🌾 I love your garden!! It’s a great inspiration to me as I am also a gardener and YouTube creator. You put a lot of work and love into growing your garden! All the hard work is worth it to me to get to see the new growth everyday it brings me so much joy! l’m just harvesting my first fruits and veggies. I still have so much to learn and I appreciate all of m your tips, tricks that you share! Please Keep sharing! I would love to learn more about gardening from each other.

  5. Grafting new apples onto an old tree root of an unwanted variety, that's so clever! I'm wondering if I missed this, but do you not grow any tomatoes on your plot and if so is that because of their watering needs?
All of this was very interesting, and your picnic bench area looks so inviting, it is such a good idea to have somewhere that you can relax and not be running back and forwards to the house for basic amenities.
